The SMSKN Skills Committee is preparing for the summer season, and has planned weekly skills sessions
in May and June. These sessions are led by Skills Committee members and are a great opportunity to
learn some new skills or brush on some old ones at the beginning of the season. Each session will be
about two-hours long. Right now we have nine sessions planned for Wednesday afternoons. Unlike
past years the skills sessions will be held at several different venues this year, including Pine Point
(Scarborough), Southern Maine Community College (South Portland), and Harpswell. Each session will
be posted on Meetup about a month in advance, so watch for the postings. We’ll do our best to keep to
the posted schedule, but skill sessions may be rescheduled or canceled at the last minute due to
weather or water conditions.

The Skills Committee is also bringing in a number of professional coaches this summer. These coaches
have agreed to schedule SMSKN member only classes at a discounted rates. We will be posting more
information about these opportunities to get professional training soon. Please take advantage of these
opportunities to work with some of the best sea kayak coaches in the area.
Thanks to all who are working to set these sessions up.
I found last year’s sessions fun and helpful.
